Safety Aspect
With all bunk beds safety is paramount and British Standard would have to approve any product that is on the market. All Bunk Beds should have a safety regulations certificate (British Safety Standard number BS EN 747:1993).
A Bunk Bed should have no gaps that are less than 6cm and no more than 7.5cm. There should be no sharp edges for your child to be injured on. The upper bed should have guard rails that are 16cm above the mattress. The slats should be no more than 7.5cm apart and you should make sure that these are securely fastened to the bed. The mattress should fit the bed properly and not slide around, the thickness of the mattress should be no more than 17cm. Do not leave any items hanging off the bunk bed as this could cause strangulation injuries. The upper bunk bed should not be used by a child under the age of 6.
